Serbians Know How to Party
Saturday August 9, 2008
St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church held its annual Serbfest recently in Merrillville, Ind. Wow! Serbs know how to party. It's all about the home-baked goodies, food, imported beers, plum brandy, better known as slivovitz, music and kolo dancing.
The Serbian Sister's Circle baked nonstop for three days during the fest and they still ran out of palachinke, apple strudel and krofne, which are similar to Polish paczki.
Cevapcici sausages and raznjici, or Serbian shish kebabs, were the order of the day. But sarma and grilled chicken with Serbian green beans also were represented.
If you have the opportunity to attend an ethnic festival this summer, embrace it with both arms. There's no better way to immerse yourself in another culture without paying big bucks for airfare.

Oh my, that looks amazing! We have several ethnic festivals here in Minnesota but no Eastern European ones. We are missing out big time… I will have to try some more of your recipes, that food looks so good!
This is a wonderful commentary on the Serb Fest. Our Serbian Sisters Circle has published a cook book of traditional Serbian food recipes as well as International favorites. Some recipes have been handed down for several generations. You can purchase a cook book and see photos and slideshows from Serb Fest at: http://www.localbizblogs.com
These dishes sound amazing. Honestly, I knew nothing about Serbian food before this site.
