Settle down, now. Kid + Foodie = Koodie! That's a term coined by Phil Lempert in SuperMarketGuru.com in November 2009.
Lempert describes a koodie as "A kid keenly interested in food, especially eating, cooking or watching reruns of Julia Child; a kid who has an ardent or refined interest in food; a mini-gourmand, usually trained by one or both parents to have an unusual, and sometimes fanatic, desire to eat unusual foods; evolution from the now defunct word 'foodie.'"
If you have a koodie at home, Curious Chef has what you need to set your child on the road to super-chef stardom. I recently tested the four-piece child chef textile set, which includes a 100% cotton apron, chef hat and two oven mitts. Pretty neat stuff -- washable, durable, adjustable strap apron with pockets, cool colors.
The real surprise was the six-piece cookie kit. The rolling pin had silicone ball bearings and, despite its child-friendly size, enough weight to flatten any piece of dough -- no toy here. The whisk, spatula and mixing spoon are "real kitchen utensils for small hands," as the advertising promises. There are so many more kits (pizza, sundae sleepover, holiday cookie, fruit & vegetable, dessert, cutlery) and Build-A-Kitchen Sets -- perfect for a daily small gift for Advent or Hanukkah.
These tools come just in time for Easter baking of Easter Bread Peeps, a sugar cookie Easter House, egg-shaped cookies and more.
Samples were provided by Curious Chef. Products are available for purchase at select stores and online.
