My friend, Gloria Kobrin, the author of Kosher Cookbook blog, recently talked about Russian khrustiki. These fried dough strips or Hanukkah crullers, as many call them, are identical to Polish chrusciki also known as faworki, Croatian krostule, and Hungarian csoroge.
Because these delectable cookie-like pastries are fried in hot oil, they're perfect for Hanukkah -- the Festival of Lights, which commemorates the miracle of the oil central to the story of the menorah's lighting. Dust the cookies with confectioners' sugar or granulated sugar and you have a stellar dessert that goes well with hot tea or coffee.

DEEP FAT FRIED FOOD????? I have always said anything, absolutely anything including dog droppings or roadkill can be deep fried and maybe even sprinkled with powdered sugar is wonderful.
