What better way to say "I love you" than with homemade sweet rolls? Try this easy Polish Cheese Sweet Roll recipe or drozdzówki z serem for brunch or breakfast on St. Valentine's Day. Make the dough up the night before, let them rise for the second time in the morning and have hot sweet rolls on Feb. 14. If sweetened curd cheese isn't your thing, fill them with whatever fruit, poppyseed or nut filling you like.
The word drozdzówki actually translates to "buns" in English and I can remember my mother saying after Sunday morning Mass, "Let's stop at Marek's Bakery for some buns." Danish pastries will forever be known as "buns" in my family and many other Polish families, I'll bet!
This sweet roll dough is only slightly sweet and not as flaky as a true Danish, but that's the way Poles like them.
