Vlada Vladic Keeps Serbian Traditions Alive While Showing How to Eat Healthy

I just saw a rerun of the 2010 Food Network Thanksgiving Family Face-Off, featuring Vlada Vladic from Temecula, Calif., who used her Serbian cooking skills to win the challenge. In addition to a turkey slathered with honey, butter, fresh oregano, salt, pepper and a little bacon, the native Serbian prepared sauerkraut with rice and bacon, veal schnitzel stuffed with prosciutto, goat cheese, baby Brie and parsley, fresh cranberry salad, a fire-roasted paprika (red pepper) salad, and a potato bake topped with bread crumbs. But the show stopper was apple strudel made with hand-pulled filo dough stretched to the size of a bed sheet. Check out the strudel-making technique here.

In addition to doing the art of Serbian cooking proud, Vladic has committed herself to preserving time-honored recipes while showing families how to cook and eat more healthfully. Check out her website Cooking and Kids for more recipes and ideas, including a walnut-peach jam strudel.

Vladic has shared her spin on a Serbian recipe for Potato-Stuffed Peppers or Paprike Punjene Krompirom. She ups the protein factor by adding albacore tuna. This is a perfect dish for Serbian Christmas Eve, which is Jan. 6.

Another recipe from Vladic is her Reform Torte. No one can seem to tell me how the name of this cake came to be. Does anyone know?

skuvaj ljudima crvene suve punjene posne paprike i napravi im ,, Prepec,, da vide kakva je to pita sa spanacem. Drago mi je da si uspela i da je srpska domaca kuhinja cenjena u Americi.
