There are some ingredients you find being called for over and over again in Eastern European recipes. Many are commonplace and some are not. Here you'll find descriptions for many, and a sample list of recipes using the ingredient.

  • Vegeta. Also known as Vegeta Gourmet Stock Powder. This mixture of salt, sugar, cornstarch, spices, dehydrated vegetables (carrots, parsnips, onions, celery, parsley leaves), and preservatives is used as a seasoning for everything from soup to sauces to meat and more. It's indispensable in the Eastern European kitchen.
