Definition: Croatian / Serbian for a roasted, mashed eggplant-sweet-pepper mixture served as a relish, dip, vegetable or side dish or spread on country-style white bread like "pogacha" as an appetizer. It is great with grilled or roasted meats, especially lamb.
Pronunciation: I-vahr
Examples:
We like our "ajvar" chunky, so we don't mash the eggplant, we chop it.
