Top 10 Gifts for the Foodie in Your Life

By Barbara Rolek, About.com

Here is a list of gift ideas for the person in your life who appreciates fine food and the tools to make it. There's something for every price range.

1. Two Sisters Polish Pottery

This beautiful Polish pottery is handpainted and, in some cases, one of a kind. Its beauty lies in its versatility. It goes from freezer to oven to refrigerator to dishwasher with nary a problem.

2. Collins Caviar

This American freshwater caviar from Collins Caviar Company rivals the flavor of Russian beluga caviar at a much more affordable price. The company also offers flavor-infused caviars, caviar spreads, blini and gift samplers. Read more about caviar.

3. Pullman Pan

Chicago Metallic's Pullman Pan is ideal for baking dark rye breads or perfectly square sandwich breads for kids' lunches or canapes. The pan can also be used for terrines, paté, torte cakes and more.

4. Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin

I'm in love with the Sil-pin Silicone Rolling Pin, a Williams-Sonoma exclusive. It's ideal for rolling everything from noodles to gingerbread dough. If you're familiar with silicone mats, you'll love this product. This is a heavy pin but the ball bearings make it glide easily.

5. All-Clad Stainless Steel Nonstick Crepe Pan

This is perfect for making all the Eastern-European crepes -- nalesniki, palachinke, palacsinta. I really like its stay-cool handle and moderate heft. And who can argue with nonstick? Not only does it make the job easier, you don't have to add as much butter, making Eastern European pancakes less of a guilty treat.

6. Dean & De Luca Babka

These babkas are more of the Ashkenazi Jewish variety than Polish (remember the "Seinfeld" episode and the chocolate babka?). They come packaged two to a shipment -- one chocolate and one cinnamon. My disappointment is that you can't order two of the same variety. The cinnamon is my favorite. The chocolate is definitely for chocolate lovers. This is one moist cake.

7. Honey Wafers by Anisi

Honey Wafers© Honey Wafer Baking Co.
These honey wafers make a great addition to an edible gift basket. Honey or chocolate filling is sandwiched between thin, crispy wafers. Best of all, one 8-inch filled disk is only 90 calories with only 5 calories from fat. If you can't find these at your favorite food purveyor, shop online.

8. Endangered Species Chocolate

Give chocolate that gives back. Ten percent of Endangered Species Chocolate profits are donated to help support species, habitat and humanity. The company buys their cacao from small, family-owned properties, helping sustain the habits and communities in which they exist. Great eating and baking chocolate.

9. iSi Cream Whipper

The iSi Cream Whipper has been one of my favorite tools for years now. It's great for whipping cream and making mousses. So many Eastern European desserts call for a garnish of cream, this tool makes clouds of whipped cream in 20 seconds -- that's how long it takes to shake the canister. The nitrous oxide charger is what does the trick!

10. Strawberry Hill Povitica

Povitica is a type of Croatian-Serbian strudel (slovenians and others call it potica) typically with a honey-walnut filling, although, cream cheese, apples and other nutmeats are used. This confection is handmade with a recipe passed down from grandma. It's baked to order and arrives within one week. No need to worry about drying out -- they're very moist. It comes in English walnut (my favorite), apple-cinnamon, strawberry-cream cheese, chocolate chip-cream cheese, and other varieties.
