The Polish Museum of America holds a wigilia or Christmas Eve dinner every year to acquaint or reacquaint Polish Americans and those of other ethnicities with this beautiful tradition. Christmas Eve is arguably the most important Catholic holiday in Poland taking precedence over Easter. Being the last day of Advent which, years ago, called for four weeks of fasting, wigilia is a meatless meal consisting of an odd number of courses, from seven to 13. It is by no means a light supper. It was believed the more courses one served, the better the harvest would be in the coming year. Enjoy this virtual tour of a wigilia dinner at the Polish Museum of America.
