Blueberry Compote - Polish Kompot z Borowkowy

The fresh flavor of blueberries comes shining through in this easy compote that has only three ingredients.

Most Polish meals end with some type of compote. This blueberry compote can be eaten as a dessert or as a sauce of sorts that goes exceptionally well with game meats like venison. It also works well on toast, poundcake or ice cream.

Makes 6 servings of Blueberry Compote

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart blueberries, washed and stemmed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup plus 1/2 cups sugar

Preparation:

  1. Sprinkle berries with 1/2 cup sugar and let stand for 1 hour. Cook water and remaining 1 cup sugar until it thickens into a syrup. Pour over fruit and let stand 1 hour before serving.

  2. Refrigerate any leftovers.
