This recipe for kruche ciasto polskie literally means "Polish crumbly dough" because sieved hard-cooked eggs are in it. This is a fun recipe to get the kids involved in because they can use their hands to take walnut-size pieces of dough and shape them into pretzels.

Makes 2 to 3 dozen Butter Pretzel Cookies

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) cold butter, cubed
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large cooked egg yolks, passed through a sieve
  • 3/4 cup confectioners' sugar

Preparation:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, cut butter into flour as for pie dough. Add sieved egg yolks and confectioners' sugar, mixing well. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  2. Take walnut-sized pieces of dough and roll into a rope. Form into a pretzel shape on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles. Bake 12-15 minutes or until lightly brown.

  3. Cool completely on the pan and store tightly covered.
